BayBio Therapeutic Area Series - Advancements in Oncology: Beyond Radiation

Emily Hua, a Vice President in our Brand Management Practice, will moderate a panel discussion highlighting the development and commercialization challenges of bringing cancer therapies to the market.

Abstract:

Over 1.4 million new cases of cancer were reported in the United States in 2008 alone. Cancer, which causes about 13 percent of deaths each year worldwide, can be treated and some can be cured depending on the specific type, location and stage of the tumor. In recent years, there has been significant progress in the development of targeted therapies for various tumor types including small-molecule drugs, apoptosis-inducing drugs, and monoclonal antibodies. In essence, these treatments eliminate the need for chemotherapy and radiation therapy and promise to offer a more tailored approach to treatment, harming fewer normal cells, reducing side effects, and improving patients’ quality of life. In this session, leading Northern California life science companies will discuss their product development efforts, therapies currently on the market, and the potential impact they have on the treatment of cancer.
